What is Optimism?

Optimism is a Layer 2 solution for Ethereum that aims to increase scalability and reduce transaction fees on the Ethereum blockchain. Utilizing a technology called Optimistic Rollup, Optimism enables faster and less expensive transactions while aiming to maintain the security of the main Ethereum network. The native token of Optimism, OP, is used for governance and transaction fee payments on the network.

Optimism stands out for its ability to execute Ethereum smart contracts, making it easier for developers to optimize their applications for the platform. This compatibility makes Optimism a popular choice for projects seeking to leverage its scalability features without deviating from the Ethereum ecosystem.

Optimism's technology is based on Optimistic Rollups, which bundle hundreds of off-chain transactions before sending them as a single batch to the main Ethereum network. This process significantly reduces the load on the main blockchain, enabling faster and less expensive transactions.

A unique aspect of Optimism is its almost complete compatibility with Ethereum smart contracts, allowing developers to easily move their applications to the Optimism network without needing to rewrite them. This has led to rapid and widespread adoption within the Ethereum community.

The OP token is used for governance and allows users to participate in decisions regarding the network's evolution. Additionally, OP is used to pay transaction fees.

On Conio it is possible to buy and sell OP (Optimism's native blockchain currency), however, it is not yet possible to withdraw and deposit OP. On the other hand, you can use the "Convert" function to convert OP to another asset from among those in the Conio marketplace.
